Answer Question
Simulation of traveling waves for fault location
I'm trying to simulate a traveling wave transient on a simple 100km transmission line with a source connected on one end, a load on the other & a three phase fault block in between. The fault being applied is of the type AG. When I export the waveforms into Matlab & run it through a high pass filter to remove the fundamental, I don't see any traveling waves or their reflections.
I'm using the Bergeron model for the transmission line. I'm aware that the frequency dependent phase domain model is most accurate for this but I should be seeing some waves after the high pass filtering even with the Bergeron model.
Does PSCAD support the simulation of traveling waves (including reflections)? If so, could you please provide a reference model or material (it'd be even better if it's aimed towards the application of distance to fault estimation)?
