You should not feel alienated by the new PSCAD. :-) our new features are evolving based on user feedback. I think I can offer some help in what you are trying to do.
1. you can still batch run PSCAD simulations from a DOS command. The new syntax is
project.exe -startup:alone
2. PSCAD simulations are tied to the GUI itself. Ties include communications, data exchange, diagnostics, and simulation management. It becomes a complicated task to have "unmanaged" simulations start and stop by the user. That being said, we have given users to the ability to run multiple PSCAD's from 1 license. Our new cloud based licensing will issue a license certificate to a user that will allow more than 1 PSCAD to be used on that computer. PSCAD (single user licenses) will no longer be restricted to 1 license/USB dongle.
You can expect to see the new licensing out his fall with the release of PSCAD 4.5.4 and 4.6
