Generally, I recall getting this error mostly when I copy from one project to another within a workspace.
When I receive the message, I first will "clean" my project (purging the temporary files). I then re-map my project (to the master file). Usually I will detect this problem to be a new component instance where the definition file I copied retained its mapping (link) back to the source project.
The caveat to above is this: I don't seem to be able to recreate this error "intentionally," but I seem to be able to correct it when it happens using the method above. I also frequently encounter "nmake -f" errors; and unexpected run errors when I try to run some projects from snapshots (READSTORS error terminates EMTDC). I haven't resolved those effectively.
