How to calculate R, L and C parameters of a DC cable/TLine from Line Constant Program output matrix?

I want to calculate Resistance (ohm/km), Inductance(mH/km) and Capacitance(uF/km) of a DC cable from phase impedance matrix or sequence impedance matrix output of LCP at 1mHz. The cable has core, sheath and armor. The sheath and armor are properly grounded.

The sequence impedance matrix output of this DC cable has nonzero off-diagonal elements which should not be as I have properly grounded sheath and armor. I need R, L and C values of this cable.

Hello Everyone

I am copying the email response sent by one of our transmission line experts to the customer so that we can all learn.

For a single cable, eliminate all outer layers of cable ( sheath, armour etc). This can be done by enabling conductor elimination for all layers as follows.

In the OUTPUT page, you can see the RXB data (Z=R+Xj, Y=jB)

SERIES IMPEDANCE MATRIX (Z) [ohms/m]:

0.166890964E-03,0.885137674E-04

SHUNT ADMITTANCE MATRIX (Y) [mhos/m]:

0.000000000E+00,0.146925120E-06

For two dc cables, eliminate all conductive layers as described above and then solve cable. This will create 2*2 matrix. For RXB data for ground and conductor modes can be computed manually using transformation matrix described in help (see Modal Analysis in help).

Example case is attached containing single and two cables

Hello George,

just a clarification question. in case of two mutually coupled cables, the 2x2 matrix that you are referring to, returns the differential or common mode impedances?
